Spotify

Based on an actual confidential project, This outline presents the essence and core functionalities of the project whilst protecting confidentiality. The purpose of the project is to enable a creator economy within Spotify. Creators can set a price for their own work such as podcasts and sell it to subscribing Spotify users . From the user side, there needs to be clear ways to distinguish and navigate between free and paid contents, a smooth purchase flow and the ability to track their purchased podcasts.

The scope & challenge

Shaping the business model for monetisation was the biggest hurdle for this project. The initial approach was to allow users to purchase a podcast by entering a credit card or PayPaldetails. As the project progressed, a more creator-centric model was trialled.  In the subscription system users received access to all of the creators' contents for as long as they subscribed to it. After further development and discussions, this system was projected to be financially deficient. The final system is based on users purchasing token packs to spend on creator contents.
